To summarize, occasional furniture has a practical use at certain times, but not on a regular basis as your dining tables, sofas and armchairs are used. They are distinct from accent pieces in that are in active use, but only from time to time. Such furniture can enhance the look of a room in addition to providing a practical use on demand in the modern home.
Start with your largest seating piece. It is usually a sofa or loveseat. This piece will provide the foundation for your furniture arrangement. Next, choose a comfortable armchair that provides good back support while youre watching television or chatting with friends. Theres no need to choose a chair that matches the sofa exactly. Matched living room furniture sets are outdated. Do, however, choose a fabric and a style that will coordinate with the sofa.
Continue your exotic motif in the dining room with dining room chair slip covers. Made for straight back chairs, these covers cover the back, seat, and extend to the floor all the way around the legs. These slip covers will look at home around a rustic oak table or a modern glass table as well. In the dining room, especially it is particularly convenient to have covers that can come off and be washed in the washing machine because this is where food and beverages are easily dropped in and spilled; however, it is very easy to keep these clean and looking new at all times.
Taking measurements with you to the furniture store will help you select the right pieces. Measure the outside and inside dimensions of your sofa or chairs. First measure the height, width and depth of the back of the piece. Move to the front of the sofa and measure the height and depth of the seat cushion and the height of the arm.
